Keeping Production Moving When Every Minute Counts

When Obsolete Doesn’t Mean Impossible

By TESS ELECTRICAL MECHANICAL, October 3, 2026

When one of our major injection moulding customers suffered a breakdown of a critical drive on a Friday afternoon, production came to an immediate halt. Every hour of downtime was costing the business valuable production time and revenue.

After assessing the situation, we discovered that the failed drive had become obsolete. The machine manufacturer was unable to supply a replacement, instead recommending an alternative refit costing more than £20,000 and resulting in several weeks of downtime.

Rather than accepting that outcome, our team looked for another solution.

On Friday evening, we collected the faulty drive and transported it to one of our trusted specialist repair partners. Working throughout the weekend, the drive was repaired, stabilised and fully tested to ensure it was ready for service.

By Monday morning, we had delivered the repaired drive back to our customer, allowing production to resume with minimal disruption and avoiding the significant costs associated with an expensive replacement and prolonged downtime.

At TESS, we’re committed to finding practical solutions that keep our customers’ businesses moving. Whether it’s sourcing hard-to-find components, coordinating specialist repairs or responding outside normal working hours, we’ll always do everything we can to minimise disruption and deliver the support our customers need, when they need it.
